SHAUN SUMNER

On 19th February 2021, peacefully in hospital, Shaun, aged 66 years of Whalley passed away. The loved husband of Linda, much loved dad of Kerrie, Zander and Nina and their families.

Shaun had an illustrious career with the Lancashire Constabulary. Joining the cadets at the age of 18, he took Cadet of The Year title. A real action man, he also represented the force at football, rugby and wrestling, becoming the cadet heavyweight wrestling champion of Great Britain. Whilst serving as a sergeant at Blackburn, Shaun received the county’s top bravery award along with his colleague PC Neil Smith, in their line of duty. Each day, Shaun gave his absolute best and worked his way up to Inspector. Anything he set his mind to received every ounce of his attention. He always said that it’s the taking part with the intention to win that’s important and Shaun did indeed live by that, receiving promotion to Chief Inspector in charge of the firearms squad at Hutton Headquarters. He was a most dedicated and passionate member of the force and a supreme role model for others. When he wasn’t working, Shaun loved travelling throughout Europe on motorbike holidays with his biker friends. Dynamic, high-achieving and determined, Shaun had a great capacity for work and for getting things done. He lived his social life as passionately as his professional life and loved socialising over a drink, regaling others with his fantastic tales delivered with great wit and humour.  Shaun was a devoted and most proud family man and this family hero will be deeply missed.
