Steve Down

Steve was a kind, caring and funny Gentleman who had time for everyone. The best Partner, Father figure and an absolute legend of a Grandad.

Steve was very proud of the 25 years he spent as a Bandsman with The Queens Royal Irish Hussars.

After leaving the army, Steve went on to share his love of music through teaching. He was a well respected, much loved Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute teacher. He helped set up and conduct wind bands and played in hundreds of concerts alongside the students he taught. He was passionate about teaching, always there to offer encouragement and support and always proud of what his students had achieved.

Steve was well respected as a past Scout Leader both in Germany and later when he settled in Catterick. He loved working with children and seeing them achieve their goals in life.

Steve's other love of his life was a steam train called Merlin. He was part of a small group who helped to restore the treasured engine and put it back on the track.

We chose to support this charity as it was a charity close to Steve's heart and one which he himself supported over many years.
