Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions about Hero Funds and how they work, please call us on 01725 514112 or email herofunds@helpforheroes.org.uk; and we'll be happy to help.

You might also find the answer in our FAQs below.

What do I get when I set up a Hero Fund?

When you set up a Hero Fund you’ll receive a number of online and offline resources aimed at making it as easy and enjoyable as possible to commemorate your loved one.

  • Your own secure fundraising page to personalise and share.
  • A Hero Funds welcome pack containing inspiring examples of how your fund will help veterans and their families. Your pack also includes announcement cards, donation forms, fundraising ideas and a certificate to keep as a token of our appreciation.
  • A unique number to use alongside your fund’s name, to help us ensure we can correctly identify and allocate donations to your loved one’s tribute.
  • Twice yearly copy of Heroes Magazine, which contains all the latest Charity news for our supporters and Volunteers.

How do I set up my Hero Fund?

To set up a fund in memory of a loved one, simply create an account and then follow the instructions provided.

Can I make changes to my page later?

Yes, you can change your page at any time. Just log into the admin area to update information, upload photos or video or change your fundraising target, password or email address.

Is my page secure?

Please be assured that the site is hosted in a secure environment and you will be using a secure connection to make donations and create your page. Your account will also be password-protected.

How can I share my fundraising page?

Your fundraising page will contain links to help you share your tribute with friends and family via Facebook, Twitter and email at the click of a button.

Do I have to raise a minimum amount?

There are no targets, timelines or minimum donations. This is your tribute and you can grow it in your own way.

The only time you will be asked to raise a set amount is if you take part in a Help for Heroes challenge event, where there are costs to cover. If you apply for an event with a fundraising target, the requirements will be fully explained to you during the registration process.

Do I have to set a fundraising target on my page?

Lots of friends tell us that having a target helps to keep them motivated and encourages other people to contribute, but please be assured you don’t have to set a target.

Can I donate offline too?

Yes, of course. The easiest way is to use one of the donation forms from your welcome pack; either filling out the credit card section or enclosing the completed form with a cheque made payable to Help for Heroes.

Alternatively, you can send us a cheque with a covering letter letting us know your details, who you’re commemorating and including the fund’s unique reference number. Please don’t send cash though the post.

Donations should be sent to:

Hero Funds
Help for Heroes
Unit 14 Parker’s Close
Downton Business Centre
Salisbury
SP5 3RB

You can also donate over the telephone by calling our Supporter Care Team on 0300 303 9888. Please let them know who your Hero Fund is commemorating and also your fund’s reference number.

Will I know who has donated to the fund?

Everyone who donates online or offline has the choice of displaying their name or giving anonymously.

If offline contributors agree to share their details we will post their name and message of support on your Hero Fund, and add their kind gift to the fund's offline total. If donors prefer to give anonymously, we will simply add their donation to the offline total.

Unfortunately we’re unable to tell you who’s made a donation unless the donor gives us their permission, due to Data Protection regulations.

Can Help for Heroes claim Gift Aid on my donations?

Yes; if you’re a UK taxpayer and pay income tax or tax on your savings, investments or pension we may be able to claim Gift Aid on your personal donations.

Gift Aid increases the value of your donation by 25% - at no cost to you – so it’s a great way to make your donations help even more people.

If donating via your Hero Fund page, you will automatically be asked if you’d like to Gift Aid your donation. The donation forms in your welcome pack also include a Gift Aid Declaration.

Can I decide how I’d like my donations to be used?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to earmark donations made to your Hero Fund. We can assure you that every single gift in memory of your Hero will help to fund our recovery and rehabilitation programme across the UK; supporting wounded, injured and sick veterans and military personnel, and their families, to lead healthy and secure lives with purpose.

I still have a few questions. Can I talk to someone?

Of course! If there’s anything at all you’re unsure of, or if you need some help setting up your page, please call Beth Brook on 01725 514112 or email herofunds@helpforheroes.org.uk.
